Corporate Christmas Parties in Malta: Booking the Entertainment

Christmas parties are the one corporate event of the year that staff genuinely judge. Everything else is work. This one is supposed to be a reward, and if the room feels flat people notice and remember. We have been doing corporate events in Malta for over ten years, and the parties that land well are almost always the ones that were booked and briefed properly rather than the ones with the biggest budget.

Book earlier than feels necessary

Corporate enquiries usually reach us anywhere from a few weeks to a few months before the date. For Christmas, a few weeks is late. The first two weeks of December are the tightest dates in the Maltese calendar for venues, crew and artists all at once, and they go first.

If your party is in December, the useful time to be talking to us is September or October. That is not a sales line. It is the difference between choosing your saxophonist and taking whoever is still free.

A Christmas party is three events in one

Most company parties follow the same arc, and each part has different technical needs. There is an arrival and drinks section, a sit down dinner or a standing buffet with speeches and sometimes awards, and then a party. Suppliers who treat it as one long DJ set tend to get the middle section wrong.

The arrival wants background music with a live feel. Dinner wants music that sits under conversation, never over it. The speeches want a completely different setup. And the party afterwards wants the room to change character, which is a lighting job as much as a music one.

The speeches matter more than the playlist

If your managing director is inaudible at table twelve, nobody remembers the music. Speech audio is the single most common failure at corporate events and it is entirely avoidable. It needs the right microphones, the right positions, and a sound check done before guests arrive rather than in front of them.

We always set up and sound check before the first guest walks in. Tell us in advance how many speakers there will be, whether awards are being handed out, and whether anything is being played from a laptop, and none of it becomes a scramble on the night.

Adding a musician

The thing that most reliably lifts a corporate party above the usual is a live musician playing alongside the DJ rather than instead of one. A saxophonist over a house set is the most requested combination we do. Percussion suits an upbeat or afro house room. A violinist or a singer suits something more classical. For a gala dinner format, the musician choice sets the mood of the whole evening.

The rule for the dinner portion is simple. Music must not overpower table conversation. During the party afterwards it can do whatever you want.

Putting your brand in the room

Two straightforward options. Your logo can be cut as a gobo and projected onto a wall or a screen, or printed and attached to trussing. Both photograph well, which matters if the party is going on your social channels or into an internal newsletter. Tell us early enough and we will get the artwork made in time.

Questions to settle with your venue

One thing causes more problems than anything else at corporate events, and it is not technical. Confirm with the venue in advance that they know there will be a DJ and that the volume you want is permitted. Otherwise we end up turning the music down mid party over an issue the venue never raised with anyone.

Also worth settling early: what time we can access the room to set up, where the equipment goes, and what power is available. We contact the venue ourselves ahead of the date, but knowing the answers early affects what we can realistically deliver.

You do not have to take the full package

We work across five levels of production, from dry hire where your own team sets up, through hire with setup, simple production, medium production, and full production. A small office party of forty people and a five hundred seat gala dinner are both normal for us. One event can also use different levels in different areas, so a simple setup in the dining room and a full production on the stage is perfectly reasonable.
