Song Requests and Playlists: How Much Should You Plan?

Couples usually arrive at one of two extremes. Some send a meticulously ordered playlist for the entire night. Others say play whatever you think. Neither gets the best result. A fully scripted night removes the DJ’s ability to respond to the room, and total freedom risks missing songs that matter deeply to you. The best weddings we play sit in the middle.

What we genuinely need from you

Three lists, and none of them need to be long. First, your key moments: first dance, any parent dances, the entrance, the last song. These are non negotiable and we cue them exactly. Second, your must plays, ideally ten to twenty songs that mean something to you or that you know your crowd loves. Third, and just as important, your do not plays. Every couple has songs they cannot stand, and knowing them in advance avoids an awkward moment.

Why reading the room matters

A dancefloor is a live thing. It tells you what it wants through body language, and an experienced DJ reads that constantly. Two weddings with identical guest counts and identical playlists can need completely different sets, depending on age mix, how much people have had to drink and how the day has flowed. That judgement is what you are actually paying for, and a rigid playlist takes it away.

Guest requests on the night

We welcome them. Guest requests are often the songs that turn a good floor into a great one, because they come from people who know the crowd. We simply filter them against your do not play list and against whether they suit the moment. If a request would empty the floor, we will hold it until it works.
