Adding live musicians to a DJ set is the most popular upgrade we offer, and the choice of instrument changes the feeling of the night completely. There is no single best option. It depends on which part of the day you want to lift and what mood you are after. Here is an honest guide to each.
Saxophone
The most requested, and the most versatile. A saxophone works beautifully as a relaxed, jazzy sound during cocktail hour, then transforms into pure energy over a house set later on. It cuts through a mix naturally, so it sits over the DJ rather than fighting it, and a saxophonist can move through the crowd, which guests love. If you only add one live element, this is usually it.
Violin
The violin is the most emotional option and the best fit for ceremonies. Classical pieces or contemporary songs arranged for strings during the processional are genuinely moving. Later in the night an electric violin over house music is dramatic and unexpected. Our violinist also sings, which covers both the quiet moments and the party.
Cello and vocals
A cello brings warmth and depth that no recording quite replicates, especially paired with a live voice. It suits ceremonies, arrival drinks and a first dance you want to feel intimate rather than loud. Our singer and cellist performs both, and also joins the sax and DJ in the Cello Sax Girls set.
Percussion
Congas and bongos over a DJ set do one job exceptionally well: they build energy. Percussion adds rhythm and momentum that pushes a floor from busy to packed, which makes it a favourite for summer parties, pool events and afterparties. It is also the most crowd interactive of the instruments.
Trumpet and guitar
A trumpet is bright and punchy over house music and smooth for jazz standards at cocktail hour, and it pairs superbly with saxophone. Acoustic guitar is the gentlest option, ideal for ceremonies and arrival drinks, while electric guitar layered over a DJ set gives a live, festival feel as the night builds.
